Author Q & A

1. Why do you write?

I write for joy and for fun—that has been the major source of my writing and all my inspiration as an artist. I've always enjoyed writing. I started writing very young, and I didn't think much about it until later in my life. Storytelling is such a genuine joy for me and I get such a thrill out of creating a world that I can breathe life into and then share with others. It is such a magical thing to be completely transported. I'm always chasing that feeling.

2. What is your writing process?

My writing process depends heavily on what I am working on and how. For this book ("The Blood We Shed"), I was dedicated to writing a certain amount every day, no matter what. I would try to get down 2,000 words a day. Of course, I'd have days where I couldn't get much down, and some days where much more than 2,000 words would come out, but that was what I tried to stick to for my first novel. For other projects, I will dedicate myself to working on whatever it is with a schedule and I will often write daily. I start with a solid idea of how the story is going to begin (i.e. the first major plot points, maybe with a vague idea about the major conflicts of the story), and I plan as I go. I spend a lot of time daydreaming and thinking up possible paths for the story to take, so once I begin writing, I try to have some ideas planned ahead so I have stuff I am constantly excited about getting to. But I will say, the first draft of anything I write does not take half as long as my first several rounds of self-editing. That takes an age!

3. Who is your biggest inspiration?

The people in my family and my close friends that have become my family are great inspirations to me. I look up to them all in every way and love them dearly. Also, the fact that we all have finite time on our hands. We have to choose how we spend it. The ticking clock is a great inspiration to me.

4. What do you want your readers to know about your book?

If you're into classic romantasy, this book is 100% for you. I really enjoy the genre, and I wanted to write my take on it.

5. What is coming next for you?

"The Blood We Shed" IS COMING OUT! GET YOURSELF A COPY, SEND IT TO YOUR FRIENDS AS A GIFT, SEND IT TO YOUR ENEMIES FOR FUN! READ IT AND CRY, LAUGH, SCREAM, WHATEVER! I am so thrilled that these characters will get to live somewhere outside of my head and outside of my laptop and outside of my playlists. That they get to live in a book is astounding to me!

I am a playwright and a screenwriter by day, and so several of my properties will be coming out in 2026 and 2027 (though not under my pen name, haha!). That is all very exciting as well. :)
