Author Spotlight: Sarah Primiano – Fierce Heroines, Elemental Magic, and Love Forged in Fire

Introduction

At All in the Edit, we love championing authors who build bold worlds and unforgettable characters. This month, we’re thrilled to shine the spotlight on Sarah Primiano, a fantasy romance author whose stories are brimming with magic, rebellion, and heroines who refuse to be tamed.

Blending high-stakes intrigue with slow-burn, enemies-to-lovers romance, Sarah’s debut novel, Forged in Shadow and Flame, launches readers into a fractured fae dominion where betrayal wears a crown and power demands blood. With rich world-building and sapphic tension at its core, this epic romantasy marks the beginning of a sweeping trilogy you won’t want to miss.

When she’s not writing about ruthless fae princesses and fire-wielding warriors, Sarah is reading with a cup of coffee in the early morning, questing through video games, or being dramatically outnumbered by her two overly expressive dogs. She lives in Texas with her husband and is a devoted mum — though she regularly daydreams of mountain kingdoms and whimsical fantasy realms.

About the Author

Sarah Primiano is a fantasy romance author who has been crafting stories since she was a little girl growing up in a rural town. She would run home from school and disappear into notebooks or her family computer, writing adventures where she placed herself inside bigger, braver worlds — worlds where magic lingered just beyond the tree line.

In middle school, she discovered fanfiction (thank you, Kingdom Hearts), and everything shifted. For the first time, writing wasn’t something she did alone — it was part of a vibrant community. That discovery lit a spark that never went out.

Storytelling runs deep in Sarah’s family. From loud and dramatic dinner-table tales to fireside stories under open skies, narrative has always been part of her world. Writing became her way of carrying that tradition forward — building entire universes from nothing and inviting readers inside.

Today, she writes fierce heroines, morally complex fae royalty, and stories where power is reclaimed rather than given.

Blurb

Betrayed by blood. Forged in magic.

In the fractured realm of Lytherien, fae rule has long kept humans and lesser magical races bound beneath uneasy peace — a peace maintained by fear and unequal pacts. But the balance is breaking.

Ren Harper, a human arena brawler bound for execution, survives only when a monstrous raid forces her to unleash forbidden fire-wielding magic. Her power draws the attention of a calculating fae prince, who offers her a dangerous bargain: hunt the nightmares plaguing the realm in exchange for freedom.

Princess Kaelin of House Vaelaran is always ten steps ahead — strategic, composed, and fiercely devoted to her people. When corruption begins festering within the fae court, she is determined to root it out before it destroys everything she protects.

The only problem? Working alongside Ren Harper — a human pit fighter sworn to hate her.

As the court unravels and a cursed plague spreads, shifting alliances and buried prophecies force Ren and Kaelin into an uneasy alliance… and into feelings neither can afford to acknowledge.

Forged in Shadow and Flame is a slow-burn, enemies-to-lovers sapphic fantasy perfect for readers who love rich world-building, elemental magic, ancient prophecy, and heroines who are just as deadly as they are unforgettable.

Author Q and A Banner featuring Sarah Primiano

Author Q & A

1. Why do you write?

I started writing when I was a little girl growing up in a rural area. I’d run home and disappear into notebooks, or my old school computer desktop, writing stories where I inserted myself into bigger, braver worlds. Worlds where adventure was always waiting just beyond the tree line.

By middle school, I discovered fanfiction (thank you, Kingdom Hearts), and that’s when everything shifted. That was the first time I realized writing wasn’t just something I did alone in my room — there was a whole community of people building worlds and loving characters as fiercely as I did. It felt electric. Like I had found my people.

There’s something powerful about creating entire universes from nothing. You get to explore different worlds, different perspectives, different versions of yourself. I was always the imaginative kid, constantly inventing characters and dramatic backstories. I even used to write tiny handmade “books” for Santa Claus every Christmas — my gift to him. (Because obviously the man who delivers gifts deserves one too.)

Storytelling runs deep in my family. We love telling stories — loud ones, funny ones, dramatic ones around the dinner table or outside around a bonfire. I think writing was just my way of carrying that tradition forward.

2. What is your writing process?

My writing process is chaotic and a bit unhinged. I’m a full-time working mom, so my hands are always juggling therapy sessions, daycare drop-offs, emails, dinner, laundry, life. Writing doesn’t happen in a quiet, candlelit area. It happens in the margins.

I used to wake up before my toddler and write at our kitchen table while the house was still dark and peaceful. But now he thinks sleep is optional and he’s far too cool for early bedtimes. So these days, I write in the evenings. Sometimes, I write in my car during lunch breaks on my phone because when a scene hits, it hits, and I’ve learned not to ignore it.

I usually start with a vague plot and a handful of scenes burning in my mind. I know the emotional beats. I know the tension I want. But the rest? That’s where the magic (and chaos) happens. There’s so much spontaneity in my process. I’ll sit down thinking I’m writing one small transition scene and suddenly — BAM. A huge reveal, or a betrayal, or a shift that changes everything. My characters love to hijack the wheel, and more often than not, I let them.

Endings are the hardest for me. They don’t come quietly. They usually find me in the shower or while I’m listening to my writing playlist, staring at nothing, mentally rearranging entire chapters. That’s when the final threads click into place.

I suppose this is proof that stories don’t need “perfect conditions” to exist; they just need someone stubborn enough to keep showing up for them.

3. Who is your biggest inspiration?

My biggest inspiration is the little girl who ran home to write stories in a rural house with a wild imagination and no audience. She didn’t care about algorithms. She didn’t care about sales. She just loved creating. Every time I doubt myself, I think about her. And I write for her.

4. What do you want your readers to know about your book?

I want readers to know this isn’t just a fantasy with magic and dragons. It’s a story about reclaiming power, about surviving what tried to break you, and about learning that your inner fire isn’t something to fear — it’s something to wield.

If you feel any semblance of this… you’ll feel right at home.

5. What’s coming next?

What’s coming next for me is something I’m really excited about. I’m currently about 70% of the way through drafting the first draft of Book Two, which means I’m deep in the messy middle where the twists start twisting and the stakes rise fast. Forged in Shadow and Flame is the first installment of the Flameborne Trilogy, and there are two more books planned to complete Ren’s journey. I’m hoping to publish the second book later this year, and I have some fun things lined up along the way, including a blurb reveal, a title reveal, and of course a cover reveal. I’m also planning another Kickstarter campaign to build hype and offer special preorder deals for readers, because I love making each release feel like an event. The story is growing, the world is expanding, and we’re just getting started.
