George Thorne is a British-Bulgarian fantasy author based in Epsom, Surrey, with a passion for creating emotionally driven stories about courage, sacrifice, friendship, and the choices that define who we become.

George did not always plan to become a writer. His journey began gradually as the world and characters of Spirit Walker became clearer in his imagination. Eventually, the story felt too important to remain only in his mind, inspiring him to turn his ideas into something real and meaningful.

For George, writing provides a way to express emotions, ideas, and experiences that can sometimes be difficult to communicate through ordinary conversation. His own experiences, struggles, choices, and the people he has encountered have shaped the way he explores themes such as pain, courage, sacrifice, and hope. While his stories take place in fantastical worlds, the emotions behind them are rooted in experiences that readers can recognise and connect with.

His debut novel, Spirit Walker: Rise of Akio, is the first book in an planned epic fantasy trilogy inspired by Japanese mythology and cinematic storytelling. 1. Why do you write?

I write because stories allow me to express emotions, ideas, and experiences that are sometimes difficult to explain in ordinary conversation. I want to create characters who face pain, fear, and impossible choices, yet still find the courage to protect others and hold on to hope.

I did not always plan to become a writer. The desire grew gradually as the world and characters of Spirit Walker became clearer in my imagination. Eventually, the story felt too important to remain only in my mind, and I knew I had to write it.

Becoming a writer has given me a way to turn imagination into something real and meaningful. If my stories move readers, give them hope, or stay with them after the final page, then I have achieved what I set out to do.

2. What is your writing process?

I am a full-time writer, and I prefer to plan my stories carefully before I begin writing. I develop the main plot, characters, emotional journey, and important turning points in advance, while still allowing the story to grow naturally as I write.

I usually write during the day, when I can give the story my complete attention. Because I already know where the characters and the overall story are going, I do not normally suffer from writer’s block. There may be moments when I reconsider a scene or improve an idea, but I always have a clear direction and something meaningful to work toward.

3. Who is your biggest inspiration?

My greatest inspiration comes from my own stories and everything I have lived through. My experiences, struggles, choices, and the people I have met have all shaped the way I understand courage, sacrifice, pain, and hope.

I transform those emotions and experiences into fictional worlds and characters. The events in my books may be fantasy, but the feelings behind them are real. Writing allows me to give meaning to what I have experienced and turn it into stories that other people can connect with.

4. What do you want your readers to know about your book?

I want readers to know that Spirit Walker: Rise of Akio is more than an epic fantasy adventure. At its heart, it is a story about choices, sacrifice, and what we become when life pulls us into darkness.

Akio’s journey shows that our past does not have to define us. Even when we are shaped by cruelty, fear, or loss, we can still choose compassion, courage, and hope. Ultimately, the book asks whether we are defined by what happened to us—or by the choices we make afterward.

5. What is coming next for you?

I am currently working on the second book in the Spirit Walker series, which I plan to publish in December 2026. I hope to release the third book in May 2027, completing Akio’s main journey.

I am also in communication with two animation studios about the possibility of adapting Spirit Walker for the screen. My greatest hope is to see the story become an animated movie, bringing its world, characters, emotions, and spirit powers to life for a wider audience.
